2012’s Top Special Needs Posts Countdown, #9 & 10

2012 is drawing to a close, so it's time to review the year's top special needs posts. The countdown begins with the year's 9th & 10th most popular posts.

2012 is drawing to a close, which means now’s the time to review the special needs posts that resonated most with readers in the past 12 months. (It’s also the time for the gang at DifferentDream.com to take a break and concentrate on their families, which the countdown allows us to do.) So, the top ten countdown begins today with the ninth and tenth most popular posts of the year.

Post #10: The Welcome to Holland Thing & Big Bad Thing

The tenth most popular post debuted on March 13.  In the post, I described my initial negative reaction to author (and special needs dad) Robert Rummel-Hudson’s dislike of the very popular Welcome to Holland essay. The post went on to describe how my reaction changed after a careful reading of Rummel-Hudson’s original piece. You can read the whole thing at The Welcome to Holland Thing & the Big Bad Thing.

Post #9: Handwriting Help for Kids with Special Needs

In the original post about this handwriting paper for kids with special needs, I mentioned how this new product made my former handwriting teacher’s heart go pitter pat. Well, that teacher’s heart did a happy dance when the post turned out to be a reader favorite, too. The paper was developed by occupational therapist, Jorge Ochoa, and is distributed online by Rehabmart.com.

2012 Q & A Time

Now it’s time for all you DifferentDream.com readers to tell why you liked these posts. What was their appeal? What did you learn that you didn’t know before? Have you read Robert Rummel-Hudson’s book about his daughter, Schuyler’s Monster? What did you think of it? Have you given the handwriting paper a try? How did it work? What suggestions do you have to make it work better? What other useful handwriting products have you found? Leave a comment!
