Today, I’m boarding an airplane for Savannah, Georgia – heaven on earth to midwesterners tired of winter. Therefore, today’s post is a short nugget of travel-related news.
New TSA Hotline for Travelers with Special Needs
According to a news release from the Academy of Special Needs Planners, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has developed a hotline for travelers with disabilities. The news release says “The hotline, which has been named TSD Cares (presumably because the TSA is trying to downplay numerous incidents where passengers with special needs encountered problems at checkpoints), is available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 9 pm EST at 1-855-787-2227.”
More Special Needs Travel Planning Resources
The news release mentioned above includes a link to a travel tip page at the Mobility International USA (MIUSA) website. The travel tip page is packed (no pun intended) with advice, links to government regulations, national and international disability anti-discrimination legislation, hotlines, and more. It’s the kind of page that deserves to be bookmarked and printed out as a hard copy.
What Travel Resources Have You Found?
What resources have you discovered while traveling with kids who have special needs? Please leave a comment to share your knowledge. Also, the resources mentioned above can be accessed by adults and children, but my hunch is they were originally created for adults. So if you’ve discovered any travel resources specifically for kids with special needs, we’d love to hear about them.
