More special needs websites pop up on the internet almost daily. Here are 5 very informative and reliable parenting and special needs websites.

The other day my blender died. More specifically, the teeth on the little, exposed gear thingy that twirls the blender blade died. A decade ago, it would have been easier to buy a new blender than order a new part. But now, thanks to Google, it took my husband five minutes to go online and ordered the part. Less than 48 hours later, the part arrived, and the blender was working again.

The Internet Special Needs Community

Home appliance repair is only one of the things made easier by the advent of Google. Connecting families of kids with special needs, often impossible in real life because parents can’t leave their kids who require special care in the hands of the average day care provider or sitter, is easier too. In the past few months, thanks to Google, I’ve located several websites that do a great job of connecting the special needs community.

Four Great Special Needs Websites

Today, I’m sharing four of them. Here goes:

  • www.comfortinthemidstofchaos.com – The name alone says this mom lives special needs. This blog is run by Barb Dittrich, creator of Snappin’ Ministries. At Snappin’ Ministries, she encourages churches to support families of kids with special needs. But at her personal blog she gets, well, more personal.
  • Those of you dealing with step families and special needs will find help at www.laurapetherbridge.com. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter and browse through her article archives.
  • www.5minutesforspecialneeds.com is composed of a team of bloggers who write from a variety of world views and special needs circumstances. Bloggers post frequently so there’s new content often. And they have several sister sights you’ll want to check out, too.
  • You’ll find communities and forums galore at www.supportforspecialneeds.com. There’s plenty of content to browse, even if you’re not a joiner. But, this site is most useful if you log in and set up a profile.

There you are. Four websites to help you connect with the special needs community. If you have more to add to the list, leave a comment.
